A suspected gun runner in Matazu Local Government Area of Katsina State has allegedly vanished with N95 million after collecting the money from a local bandits’ leader to supply firearms.
According to the account made public by Hon. Abdullahi Aliyu, also known as General, the lawmaker representing Musawa/Matazu Federal Constituency, the suspect received the multi-million naira payment with a promise to procure and deliver high-grade weapons. He instead fled with the entire sum and has not been seen since.
Hon. Aliyu disclosed the development during an interview with NTA Hausa.
The case comes at a time of heightened tension in the Matazu axis. Hon. Aliyu linked the incident to reports that a feared bandit kingpin in the area, Kachalla Maha, recently pulled out of local truce agreements. Since walking away from the pact, Kachalla Maha is said to have imposed heavy livestock-based levies on nearby villages, further escalating insecurity in the communities.
The incident highlights the growing risks tied to illegal arms deals in the region, even among criminal networks.
