The leadership of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, has reaffirmed its commitment to rebuilding the party and presenting credible leadership to Nigerians ahead of the 2027 general elections.
This was the outcome of a courtesy and interactive visit by the party’s Interim National Working Committee, iNWC, to former President Goodluck Jonathan at his residence in Abuja on Friday.
The delegation was led by the Chairman of the Interim National Working Committee, Barr. Kabiru Tanimu Turaki, SAN. It included State Party Chairmen and the PDP’s governorship candidates for the 2027 elections.
According to a statement issued after the meeting, discussions focused on strengthening the party, deepening unity among stakeholders, and charting a strategic path towards victory in 2027.
The party said the meeting provided an opportunity to assess the state of the PDP and to align on steps needed to promote internal cohesion.
“The meeting reaffirmed the PDP’s commitment to rebuilding the party, promoting internal cohesion, and presenting Nigerians with credible leadership and renewed hope,” the statement read.
Barr. Turaki said the party remains resolute in its mission to serve Nigerians, adding that the PDP is “united in purpose and guided by experience.”
Dr. Goodluck Jonathan, who is the National Leader of the PDP and holds the national honour of GCFR, received the delegation. While details of his remarks were not disclosed, party leaders described the engagement as significant to ongoing efforts to reposition the PDP ahead of the next election cycle.
The PDP has been undergoing internal restructuring since the 2023 general elections, with the iNWC saddled with the responsibility of stabilising the party and preparing its structures nationwide for 2027
