The Arewa Youth Assembly for Good Leadership, AYAGL, has honoured the Chairman of the House of Representatives Committee on Finance, Rt. Hon. James Abiodun Faleke, for what it described as his remarkable contributions to nation-building, exemplary public service, and people-centred leadership.
In a press statement issued in Abuja on Monday, July 28, 2027, and signed by the President of the Assembly, Alhaji Danbature Abdul, the youth group said the decision to celebrate Faleke was in recognition of his consistent dedication to the ideals of good governance, inclusive development, and national unity.
According to the statement, Faleke has through his legislative and community engagements demonstrated a leadership style that continues to inspire young people across Northern Nigeria and beyond. The Assembly noted that his work in public office has helped to reposition the conversation around youth participation in politics and governance, while also fostering hope among young Nigerians who are seeking credible role models.
“_Rt. Hon. Faleke has consistently demonstrated uncommon dedication to the ideals of good governance, inclusive development, and national unity. Through his visionary leadership, unwavering commitment to public service, and steadfast support for youth development, he has inspired countless young people across Northern Nigeria and beyond to embrace the values of integrity, excellence, and responsible leadership,_” the statement read.
The Arewa Youth Assembly for Good Leadership is a socio-political organization that advocates for credible leadership, youth inclusion, peace, unity, and sustainable development across Nigeria, with a particular focus on the 19 Northern states and the Federal Capital Territory. The group said it has been monitoring the contributions of public office holders over the years and found Faleke’s record to be consistent with the values it seeks to promote among the younger generation.
In highlighting Faleke’s impact, the Assembly pointed to his role in legislative oversight, constituency development, and his advocacy for policies that strengthen democratic institutions. It said his approach to representation, which cuts across ethnic and religious lines, has helped to strengthen national cohesion at a time when the country is grappling with issues of division and mistrust.
“_The Assembly particularly acknowledges his role in repositioning Northern Nigerian youths towards the pursuit of quality leadership, fostering hope, promoting national cohesion, and strengthening the confidence of young people in the democratic process. His leadership style continues to serve as a model for public office holders and emerging leaders across the country,_” Alhaji Abdul stated.
Faleke, who represents Ikeja Federal Constituency in Lagos State and also chairs the powerful House Committee on Finance, has in recent years been involved in key national debates around fiscal policy, revenue generation, and transparency in government spending. The AYAGL said his ability to carry out these responsibilities while maintaining a reputation for accessibility and service delivery is one of the reasons he has earned respect beyond his constituency.
The youth group described Faleke as a statesman whose impact transcends regional, ethnic, and religious boundaries. It argued that in a political environment often characterized by sectional interests, Faleke has proven that selfless service and purposeful leadership remain the foundation for sustainable national development.
“_As a statesman whose impact transcends regional, ethnic, and religious boundaries, Rt. Hon. Faleke has proven that selfless service and purposeful leadership remain the foundation for sustainable national development. His enduring legacy of transformational leadership and commitment to the welfare of the people has earned him the admiration and respect of the Arewa Youth Assembly for Good Leadership,_” the statement added.
The honour comes at a time when youth organizations across the country are increasingly calling for more accountability and inclusiveness in governance. The AYAGL said it believes that recognizing leaders who exemplify the right values will encourage others in public office to prioritize the welfare of citizens, particularly young people who constitute a majority of Nigeria’s population.
In the statement, the Assembly also commended Faleke for his continued support for youth empowerment initiatives. It noted that his interventions in education, skills acquisition, and mentorship have provided opportunities for many young Nigerians to develop their capacities and contribute meaningfully to society. The group said such efforts are critical to addressing unemployment and restiveness among youths, especially in Northern Nigeria where development challenges remain significant.

“_We therefore commend Rt. Hon. James Abiodun Faleke for his outstanding contributions to the advancement of Nigeria and for his continued support for youth empowerment and national progress. We encourage him to remain steadfast in his service to the nation, while assuring him of the continued goodwill and support of the youths of Northern Nigeria,_” Alhaji Abdul said.
The AYAGL further reiterated its commitment to promoting credible leadership and ensuring that young people are not just spectators but active participants in shaping the future of the country. It said the organization will continue to engage lawmakers, executives, and other stakeholders to push for policies that create jobs, improve education, and guarantee security for all Nigerians.
The group also used the opportunity to call on other public office holders to emulate Faleke’s example by prioritizing service over self-interest and by creating platforms for young people to thrive. It stressed that sustainable development cannot be achieved without deliberately investing in the next generation of leaders.
“_The Arewa Youth Assembly for Good Leadership remains committed to promoting credible leadership, youth inclusion, peace, unity, and sustainable development across Nigeria,_” the statement concluded.
Faleke has served in the National Assembly since 2015 and has been known for his work in financial oversight and constituency projects. Prior to his election to the House of Representatives, he served as Secretary to the Lagos State Government and was also a former Chairman of Ojodu Local Council Development Area. His career in public service has spanned more than two decades, during which he has been associated with efforts to strengthen local government administration and improve service delivery.
Political observers note that recognitions such as the one from AYAGL reflect a growing trend where civil society and youth groups are taking a more active role in assessing and applauding the performance of elected officials. For the Arewa Youth Assembly, the honour to Faleke is intended not just as an award, but also as a message to other leaders about the kind of leadership that young Nigerians expect in the coming years.
With Nigeria preparing for another cycle of elections and policy debates, the Assembly said it will continue to monitor governance and to amplify the voices of youths who are demanding transparency, equity, and development across all regions of the country.
