Former Ekiti State Governor, Ayo Fayose, has pledged to justify the confidence reposed in him by President Bola Tinubu following his appointment as Chairman of the Board of the Rural Electrification Agency, REA.
In a statement issued after news of the appointment broke, Fayose said the role was both an honor and a responsibility, given the agency’s direct impact on communities across the country.
“I sincerely thank President Bola Tinubu for finding me worthy of this appointment. It is a privilege to serve, particularly in an agency whose mandate directly impacts people at the grassroots,” Fayose said.
He added that the new board would be guided by service and accountability.
“We will do our very best, and, by the grace of God, we will not let the President down,” he stated.
Fayose noted that the board has not yet been inaugurated, and therefore could not go into details about immediate plans.
“The board has not been inaugurated yet, so I cannot speak extensively on what lies ahead. In due course, when we begin work officially, we will be in a better position to discuss our plans and how we intend to improve rural electrification across the country,” he said.
The Rural Electrification Agency is charged with expanding access to electricity in unserved and underserved rural communities, through grid extension, mini-grids, and solar projects.
REA’s work is considered central to the administration’s energy and poverty-reduction agenda, with millions of households in rural areas still lacking reliable power.
The date for the inauguration of the new REA board is yet to be announced by the Presidency.
