National Democratic Congress chieftain Buba Galadima has claimed that President Bola Tinubu currently has the support of “34 and a half” of Nigeria’s 36 state governors ahead of the 2027 general elections.
Galadima made the statement on Friday during the inauguration of the NDC National Reconciliation Committee in Abuja. The committee was set up to resolve post-primary election disputes within the party.
According to him, Oyo State Governor Seyi Makinde is the only governor not aligned with the President.
“President Tinubu has 34 and a half governors. The only governor that is not with him is Governor Seyi Makinde. Alex Otti is there… forget about that,” Galadima said.
He described Bauchi State Governor Bala Mohammed as “the half,” alleging that efforts to get him to defect to the APC were unsuccessful.
“We met with him until 3am, and he was supposed to defect the next day, but he called us in the morning saying he has changed his mind because he was advised not to move to a party with a strong presidential candidate,” Galadima stated.
“Bala Mohammed is on the fence. He may work with us, or he may work with President Tinubu.”
The NDC chieftain did not provide further details on the meeting he referenced or name those involved in the discussions.
There has been no immediate response from the Presidency, the APC, or the offices of Governors Makinde, Otti, and Mohammed regarding Galadima’s claims.
The NDC National Reconciliation Committee is tasked with resolving internal disputes following the party’s recent primaries as political parties begin preparations for the 2027 general elections.
