The NDC presidential candidate Peter Obi has congratulated the Hausa community across Nigeria as they mark International Hausa Day in Daura, Katsina State, praising their contributions to national development.
In a statement released on Thursday, Obi said the Hausa people have made “significant and lasting contributions to the growth and development of our nation,” citing their impact in culture, traditions, enterprise, agriculture, scholarship, public service, and community service.
“Celebrating the Hausa Community and Its Contributions to Nigeria,” Obi wrote. “The Hausa people have made significant and lasting contributions to the growth and development of our nation, enriching Nigeria through their culture, traditions, enterprise, agriculture, scholarship, public service, and dedication to community.”
He described the occasion as more than a cultural celebration, framing it as a moment to strengthen national cohesion.
“This celebration is not only a moment to honor a proud heritage but also an opportunity to reaffirm the bonds that unite us as Nigerians. Our diversity remains one of our greatest strengths, and our shared future depends on recognizing and respecting the contributions of every community,” Obi stated.
The Daura event brings together Hausa leaders, cultural groups, and government officials to reflect on the heritage and role of the Hausa in Nigeria’s history.
Concluding his message, Obi wished celebrants peace and progress.
“As you celebrate in Katsina, I wish you peace, prosperity, and a renewed sense of hope. May this occasion bolster our unity and inspire us to build a Nigeria where every citizen, regardless of ethnicity or background, has equal opportunities to flourish,” he said.
International Hausa Day is observed annually to celebrate Hausa language, culture, and identity across Nigeria and the wider West African region.
