Social media influencer and human rights activist Martins Vincent, popularly known as Verydarkman, has fully sponsored an 18-year-old Nigerian creative to study in China.
In a statement released today, Verydarkman said he took the student, who goes by the name SMARTICIAN, to Zhejiang A&F University, ZAFU, in Hangzhou, Zhejiang Province for registration and resumption.
According to him, SMARTICIAN’s real name is Darlyton Ovwighosutu and he is from Ughelli, Delta State.
Verydarkman said he first came across the young man’s work on Instagram in early 2025 and was impressed by his creativity. He noted that while Nigeria celebrates such talents, there is often little investment to help them grow.
“Talents like his don’t go far in Nigeria, people will hail you and talk about how creative you are but no one would invest in other to bring that out the potential,” he said. “When I thought about how his likes end up in Nigeria I TOLD MYSELF I had to do something about his talent and make sure it doesn’t go to waste.”
The activist said he decided to award the student a full scholarship, covering all expenses. He added that he also facilitated Darlyton’s first international passport, his first local flight, and his first international flight to China.
“I am so proud of my self and I know God will bless me and with God’s blessings this new chapter of my life will not stop at him, I will bring more and more creative people to China,” Verydarkman stated.
The move adds to Verydarkman’s public advocacy around youth empowerment and education. He has been vocal on social media about supporting young Nigerians with skills and talent who lack access to opportunities.
ZAFU is a public university in Hangzhou known for programs in agriculture, life sciences, and engineering, and has in recent years attracted more international students.
Darlyton is expected to begin academic activities at the university this semester.
