Former VP hosts TMG convener Abba Hikima, says ADC is preferred platform as 109,799 Nigerians vote in nationwide poll
Former Vice President and presidential hopeful of the African Democratic Congress, ADC, Atiku Abubakar, has formally endorsed the ‘Tinubu Must Go’ #TMG Nationwide Campaign, following a nationwide poll conducted by the movement in which he emerged as the preferred candidate.
Atiku disclosed this in a statement issued on Monday
after receiving in audience Barrister Abba Hikima, one of the leading conveners of the Tinubu Must Go movement, in Abuja.
According to Atiku, the TMG movement recently concluded a nationwide poll which recorded an impressive participation of 109,799 respondents across the country.
“I received in audience Abba Hikima Esq, one of the leading conveners of the Tinubu Must Go #TMG Nationwide Campaign, following the movement’s recently concluded nationwide poll, which recorded an impressive participation of 109,799 respondents,” Atiku said.
The former Vice President said he is particularly encouraged by the depth of citizen engagement reflected in the exercise, in which his candidacy received an overwhelming 73.6 percent of the votes, with the ADC emerging as the preferred political platform
“I am particularly encouraged by the depth of citizen engagement reflected in the exercise, in which my candidacy received an overwhelming 73.6% of the votes, with the ADC emerging as the preferred political platform,” he stated.
Beyond the outcome of the poll, Atiku said what is significant is the larger aspiration it represents — a growing national yearning for change and the collective determination to rescue Nigeria from its present trajectory.
“Beyond the outcome of the poll, what is significant is the larger aspiration it represents: a growing national yearning for change and the collective determination to rescue Nigeria from its present trajectory,” he said.
The ADC presidential aspirant fully endorsed the movement and invited all Nigerians who share the aspiration for a new Nigeria to join what he described as a noble cause.
“I fully endorse the movement and invite all Nigerians who share this aspiration to join this noble cause. I also look forward to engaging with the wider national leadership of the Tinubu Must Go movement as we work together towards the larger objective of rebuilding a united, prosperous and democratic Nigeria,” Atiku added.
The endorsement is coming at a time when opposition coalition talks have intensified ahead of the 2027 general elections, with the ADC emerging as the adopted platform for several opposition leaders including Atiku Abubakar, Peter Obi, Nasir El-Rufai and others.
Political analysts say the ‘Tinubu Must Go’ campaign, which started as a social media protest against economic hardship, rising inflation, and insecurity under President Bola Tinubu’s administration, is fast evolving into a structured political movement with significant youth participation.
The poll result showing Atiku leading with 73.6 percent is expected to stir fresh debate within the opposition coalition over who should fly the ADC flag in 2027, as Peter Obi and other aspirants also command large followings.
As of the time of filing this report, the Presidency and the ruling All Progressives Congress, APC, are yet to react to Atiku’s endorsement of the TMG movement.
