The ADC Presidential Campaign Council has faulted Vice President Kashim Shettima over his claim that President Tinubu saved Nigeria from economic collapse.
The African Democratic Congress Presidential Campaign Council (ADCPCC) has responded to Vice President Kashim Shettima’s recent comment that President Bola Ahmed Tinubu saved Nigeria from economic collapse.
The council said the statement credited to the Vice President should be viewed in the context of the All Progressives Congress (APC) being in power since 2015.
The reaction was contained in a statement issued on Sunday by the Director of Media and Publicity of the ADC Presidential Campaign Council, Kola Ologbondiyan.
Ologbondiyan said Shettima’s remark that the country was heading towards a Caracas-like situation before Tinubu assumed office raises questions about the record of the previous APC administration under former President Muhammadu Buhari.
According to him, the attempt to separate the current administration from the previous one does not reflect the fact that both governments were elected on the platform of the same party.
“Vice President Shettima’s statement raises its own questions. If Nigeria was heading towards economic challenges under Buhari, it means the situation lasted for eight years under the same party platform,” he said.
He added that President Tinubu, during the build-up to the 2023 elections, had stated that his administration would build on the legacies of the Buhari administration.
Ologbondiyan said Nigerians associate governance with political parties and not just individuals, noting that the APC has been in power at the federal level for almost 12 years by the end of the current tenure.
The ADC campaign council said its major concerns remain the current economic realities facing citizens, including the cost of living, food prices, and access to basic services.
“Our roads need attention, electricity supply remains a challenge, and institutions need strengthening. What concerns ordinary Nigerians today is access to affordable food and basic necessities,” Ologbondiyan said.
He further stated that the Tinubu administration has not met the expectations of Nigerians in terms of economic stability, citing high inflation, naira depreciation, unemployment and insecurity.
According to him, the economic situation being described as a future risk is already being felt by many households across the country.
The statement also addressed the recent announcement by the Vice President on the planned deployment of 10,600 electric tricycles, 300 buses and electric taxis under an e-logistics programme in the coming weeks.
Ologbondiyan urged Nigerians to assess the government based on delivery of its promises, referencing the earlier assurance that transportation costs would reduce by October 1, 2026.
He called on the Vice President and the ruling party to focus on addressing the challenges facing the country rather than engaging in what he described as revisionist narratives.
The ADC Presidential Campaign Council said it remains committed to presenting its own plans for economic recovery ahead of the 2027 general elections.
