Security operatives deployed to monitor the ongoing FCT Civil Service promotion examinations have arrested a 33-year-old man, Monsuru Musa, for allegedly impersonating his father at the examination centre.
Monsuru was apprehended on Wednesday, the third day of the promotion exercise organised by the FCT Civil Service Commission, at the National Open University of Nigeria (NOUN) centre in Abuja, designated venue for the Computer-Based Test.
It was gathered that Monsuru was caught writing the examination on behalf of his father, Musa Mohammed, a staff of the FCT Fire Service.
Upon interrogation, the suspect claimed his father was sick and was within the NOUN premises, adding that he was directed by his father to sit for the paper on his behalf.
In a dramatic twist, the suspect told security operatives that his father is between 67 and 68 years old, while the father, Musa Mohammed, insisted he will be 60 years old by February 2027.
Further contradictions emerged when the father stated that he finished secondary school in 1982 and primary school in 1977.
The security team, deployed at the instance of the FCT Minister, Nyesom Wike, to ensure the integrity of the exercise, immediately arrested both father and son.
Both suspects have made statements to operatives of the Department of State Services (DSS) and have been handed over to the Nigeria Police Force for further investigation and possible prosecution.
The FCT Civil Service Commission had commenced the 2026 Computer-Based Promotion Examinations for eligible officers from October 5 to 13, 2026, amid an indefinite strike declared by the FCT NLC.
