The Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, FCT, Barr. Nyesom Wike, has mocked former Rivers State Governor, Rotimi Amaechi, over his prediction on the outcome of the 2027 presidential election.
Wike spoke during his media chat on Tuesday while responding to questions on whether the emerging opposition alliance involving Amaechi and former Vice President Atiku Abubakar poses a threat to President Bola Tinubu’s supporters.
The FCT Minister said he watched Amaechi’s town hall meeting in Cross River State where the former governor argued that Atiku was positioned to win the 2027 election based on regional distribution of major contenders.
“I watched Amaechi. He had a town hall meeting in Cross River. I can tell you the numbers were not up to 200 people,” Wike said.
According to Wike, Amaechi had told his supporters that Atiku is from the North, while President Tinubu, former Labour Party presidential candidate Peter Obi and former Governor Donald Duke are from the South, concluding that Atiku had already won the election.
Wike dismissed the argument, questioning how a key figure in the opposition could declare victory based on such assumptions.
“How can a vice-presidential candidate go to a town hall meeting, stand and tell his supporters, ‘Do you know how this election has been won?’” he queried.
The Minister also challenged the narrative that Atiku’s northern base automatically guarantees victory, recalling the outcome of the 2023 presidential election where Tinubu defeated Atiku and Obi despite the regional spread of candidates.
“In 2023, Atiku ran, Obi ran, Tinubu ran. Who won?” Wike asked.
He, however, cautioned that 2027 would present entirely different political dynamics from 2023.
“I have always told you people, 2027 will be totally different from 2023,” Wike added.
