The Honourable Minister of Works, Sen. Engr. David Umahi, CON, was in Uburu, Ebonyi State on Tuesday to celebrate the traditional marriage of his niece, Shekinah Obi-Umahi, to Shokpe Adebayo Ayinde.
The ceremony, held in the Minister’s hometown, drew together family members, friends, and well-wishers for a celebration marked by cultural display and communal joy.
Shekinah is the daughter of Maj. (Rtd.) Pastor Obi Abel Umahi, DSc, OFR. The groom, Shokpe, is the son of Commodore NN (Rtd.) Deacon Adebayo Abidemi Ayinde.
Minister Umahi attended the event alongside his wife, H.E. Chief Mrs. Rachel Umahi, popularly known as _Ogoo Nwanyi_. The couple joined other relatives in offering prayers and goodwill to the newly married pair, wishing them “a beautiful, peaceful and fulfilling life together,” according to a statement from the Minister’s office.
The occasion featured rich Igbo traditional rites and festivities, with prominent personalities in attendance. Beyond the family celebration, the union drew attention as a meeting of cultures — an Igbo bride and a Yoruba groom.
“The marriage beautifully celebrated the bond between two cultures… a demonstration of the unity and diversity that define Nigeria,” the statement noted.
The event underscored both family ties and national unity, as guests from across the country gathered in Uburu to witness the traditional rites.
