Police Chief Says Public Loves Professional Officers, Commends Retired DST For Discipline, Dedication In Ogun Command
The Inspector-General of Police, IGP Olatunji Rilwan Disu, has honoured retired Deputy Superintendent of Traffic (DST) Anifa Bello Abiodun with the IGP’s Award of Recognition and cash support for her outstanding service to the Nigeria Police Force.
The award presentation was held on Thursday, September 17, 2026, at the Force Headquarters, Louis Edet House, Abuja.
Presenting the award, IGP Disu commended the retired officer for her professionalism, discipline, resilience and uncommon dedication to traffic management during her years of service in the Ogun State Police Command, particularly in Abeokuta
According to the Police Chief, DST Anifa Bello Abiodun distinguished herself through consistent commitment to duty and service to members of the public, earning the appreciation and goodwill of residents and road users in all the communities where she served.
IGP Disu noted that the gesture was a demonstration that Nigerians appreciate the police when officers discharge their duties professionally and responsibly.
“The public appreciates the Police when we do our job professionally. What people dislike is misconduct, not the institution itself,” the IGP said, expressing satisfaction that the retired officer had earned the respect and recognition of the community she served.
The IGP reaffirmed that while the Force will continue to hold personnel accountable for misconduct, it is equally committed to rewarding officers who exemplify integrity and excellence.
“It is important to recognise and reward officers who demonstrate professionalism, integrity and exemplary service. Such recognition reinforces the values we expect and encourages others to distinguish themselves,” Disu added.
The retired officer was celebrated after a viral public commendation of her service while managing traffic in Abeokuta.
In a statement signed by the Force Public Relations Officer, CSP Ani Iniedu, the Nigeria Police Force said it remains committed to promoting accountability, rewarding exemplary conduct and recognising personnel whose dedication strengthens public confidence in policing across the country.
