Five State Governors elected under the All Progressives Congress, APC, are reportedly working behind the scenes for the Nigeria Democratic Congress, NDC, ahead of the 2027 general elections.
This allegation was made by popular businessman and political analyst, Isaac Fayose, in a video he posted on his social media page on Sunday.
According to Fayose, the five APC Governors have agreed to bankroll the NDC’s campaign activities while still maintaining their public membership of the ruling party. He stated that the governors will not openly campaign for the opposition or make any public comments in support of the NDC.
Fayose revealed that the major condition given by the governors is that the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, FCT, Nyesom Wike, must not be allowed to deliver victory for the APC in the FCT and Rivers State
In his words: “We now have five APC governors supporting the NDC in this election. They are not going to come out to campaign for us. They are not going to say anything in public that will favour us, but underneath, they promised us to sponsor this election, and their request is very simple.”
He further disclosed that the governors raised concerns over alleged plans to manipulate election results in the two states. To counter this, they reportedly offered to finance NDC polling agents in Rivers and the FCT with the sum of N200,000 per polling unit.
Fayose however refused to mention the names of the governors involved, explaining that they demanded strict anonymity due to their affiliation with the ruling party.
The development comes as political activities intensify ahead of the 2027 polls, with the NDC, which has Peter Obi as its presidential candidate, making moves to strengthen its national presence.
As at the time of filing this report, the allegation is yet to be independently confirmed, and neither the APC nor any of the governors mentioned has released an official reaction.
