Gov admits receiving more FAAC funds but fails to tackle hunger, Alli campaign says Tinubu reforms vindicated
The governorship battle in Oyo State ahead of the 2027 elections has taken a sharp turn as the Senator Sharafadeen Alli Campaign Organisation has described Governor Seyi Makinde as clueless and a total embarrassment to the people of the state.
The Alli Campaign Organisation, which is championing the governorship ambition of Senator Sharafadeen Alli, said Makinde has shown he is more than clueless for failing to address hunger in Oyo State despite admitting that the state now receives increased funds from the federation account.
In a statement issued on Tuesday by its Director of Media and Publicity, Bisi Oladele, the campaign organisation said Governor Makinde’s admission is a confirmation of the success of the economic reform policies of the All Progressives Congress, APC, government of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu.
Governor Makinde, who is also reportedly a presidential aspirant on the platform of the Allied Peoples Movement, APM, had admitted in Lafia, Nasarawa State on Monday, that Oyo State received more money from the federation account, but added that he has not been able to reduce hunger in the state.
Reacting, the Senator Sharafadeen Alli Campaign Organisation said the statement by Makinde, though a function of his level of intellectual capacity, is a sad and clear reality of what Oyo State has been going through in terms of purposeful governance in the last seven years.
“Makinde Is Clueless, An Embarrassment To Oyo State. For failing to address hunger in Oyo State despite increased funds from the federation account, Makinde has shown that he is more than clueless,” the campaign organisation stated.
According to the organisation, if through the ingenuity and purposeful leadership of President Tinubu, Oyo State allocation from the federation account has increased tremendously, it should not be the duty of the President to ensure judicious use of the money at the state level.
The campaign queried who Governor Makinde expects to help him fight hunger in his state if he has acknowledged receiving more money monthly from the federation account.
“If through the ingenuity and purposeful leadership of President Tinubu, Oyo State allocation from the federation account has increased tremendously, should it also be the duty of the President to ensure judicious use of the money? If you have acknowledged that monthly, you have been getting more money from the federation account, who are you expecting to come and help you to fight hunger in your State? Is it President Tinubu?” the statement queried.
The Alli Campaign Organisation also accused Governor Makinde of deliberately refusing to allow local governments in Oyo State to function, alleging that the governor has been opposing local government autonomy so as to continue to spend both the state and local council funds.
“Most importantly, this same Governor Makinde has deliberately refused to allow local governments in Oyo State to function. He has criminally been everywhere, opposing local government autonomy so as to continue to spend both the State and local council funds,” Oladele said.
The organisation declared that for the people of Oyo State, waiting a day longer to stop the extension of Makinde’s alleged cluelessness beyond 2027 must not be allowed to happen.
“Therefore, for the people of Oyo State, waiting a day longer to stop the extension of Makinde’s cluelessness beyond 2027 is what must not be allowed to happen and on February 6, 2027, the governor and the man through whom he desires to extend his clueless government will be rejected by the people,” the statement added.
Senator Sharafadeen Alli, who represents Oyo South Senatorial District in the National Assembly, is a leading governorship aspirant on the platform of the APC and is considered one of the major challengers to the ruling Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, in Oyo State.
