The All Progressives Congress (APC) has launched a scathing attack on former Minister of Transportation, Rotimi Chibuike Amaechi, describing him as a “loafer” outside public office following his recent comment about his mother’s death.
In a strongly worded press statement signed by its National Publicity Secretary, Felix Morka, on Saturday, October 4, 2026, in Abuja, the ruling party said it prays that the soul of Amaechi’s mother, Dame Ezinne Mary Oduah Amaechi, continues to rest in perfect peace, while also praying for good health for the former governor.
The APC statement was a direct response to Amaechi’s claim that he could not afford medications for his mother’s treatment before she died at the age of 89.
The party, in the statement titled “ROTIMI AMAECHI, YOU ARE A LOAFER OUTSIDE THE PUBLIC OFFICE,” mocked the former minister’s current financial situation, noting that for four decades, Amaechi held top public offices and never lacked.
“We also pray for excellent health of mind and body for her son, Rotimi Chibuike Amaechi, a former two-term Speaker of the Rivers State House of Assembly, two-term Governor, two-term Minister of Transportation, former presidential aspirant, and currently the vice-presidential candidate of the African Democratic Congress (ADC), who could not afford medications for his mother’s treatment,” the statement read.
The ruling party further prayed that employers of labour in his hometown of Ubima in Ikwerre Local Government Area of Rivers State may find him suitable for a job that pays enough for him to feed and buy medications for himself and his family for the rest of his retirement.
The APC recalled that Amaechi had previously lamented that he was broke and that his wife was now feeding him, adding that his latest confession about his mother’s drugs was consistent with his earlier outburst.
“Rotimi Amaechi’s uncanny confessions must not be missed. First, he howled that he had become so broke and hungry that his wife was now feeding him. Now, he has stated that his inability to afford medications killed his mother at 89,” Morka said.
According to the APC, Amaechi’s inability to sustain himself just three years after leaving office raises serious questions about his productivity outside government patronage.
“For four decades, Rotimi Amaechi freeloaded at the highest levels of public office. He was never hungry and could afford medications for himself and his family. Just three years out of office, he has become destitute, unable to fend for himself and his loved ones. If Amaechi is not struggling with some kind of Peter Pan syndrome, then he must be a loafer, aimless and irresponsible for his inability to be productive and earn a living outside the patronage of public office,” the party stated.
The APC also took a swipe at Amaechi’s reported vice-presidential ambition under the African Democratic Congress (ADC) ahead of the 2027 general elections, saying he is seeking a return to public office to continue what it described as a predatory lifestyle.
“The same Rotimi Amaechi now asks Nigerians to make him vice president come 2027 so he can continue leeching on the public treasury and keep the predatory lifestyle he has grown accustomed to. The presidency is not a soup kitchen and will not be a soup kitchen for Rotimi Amaechi,” the statement added.
The party concluded that Amaechi himself has demonstrated his unfitness for the office of Vice President through his own confessions.
“No one can speak more to Rotimi Amaechi’s unfitness for the office of Vice President than Rotimi Amaechi himself,” Morka said.
