Former Anambra State governor and NDC presidential candidate, Peter Obi, has donated ₦10 million to the College of Nursing Sciences, Oluyoro, Ibadan, as part of what he described as his continued commitment to supporting healthcare education in Nigeria.
Obi made the donation on Wednesday during a visit to the institution immediately after attending the 50th/15th Biennial Conference of the Methodist Church.
Speaking with the management and students of the college, Obi said education remains “one of the strongest foundations for building a better nation,” particularly in critical sectors like healthcare.
“The training of competent healthcare professionals is essential to improving the quality of care and strengthening our national development,” he said.
According to him, the donation fulfills an earlier pledge to support the college and is aimed at assisting in the training of future nurses and other healthcare professionals.
Addressing the students, Obi encouraged them to take their studies seriously, noting the global demand for skilled and compassionate nurses.
“Nurses occupy a vital place in the healthcare system. Their skills, compassion, and dedication are needed not only in Nigeria but across the world,” he told the students. “I urge you to pursue excellence, uphold the highest standards of professionalism, and become worthy ambassadors of our country.”
He concluded his remarks with his popular slogan: “A new Nigeria is POssible.”
The College of Nursing Sciences, Oluyoro, is one of Oyo State’s foremost institutions for training nurses and midwives.
Obi’s visit and donation add to his recent engagements focused on education and health as key pillars for national development ahead of the next election cycle.
