The Oluwo of Iwoland, Oba Abdulrosheed Akanbi, has declared that President Bola Ahmed Tinubu should be the only presidential candidate permitted to campaign in Osun State ahead of the 2027 general elections.
The monarch made the statement in a post on his official Facebook page. The post included a video of his remarks delivered during the flag-off ceremony for the rehabilitation of the Osogbo-Iwo-Ibadan Road.
In his address, Oba Akanbi specifically mentioned other political figures who he said should not come to Osun for campaign activities. They are ADC presidential candidate Atiku Abubakar, NDC presidential candidate Peter Obi, AAC Presidential candidate, Omoyele Sowore and APM presidential candidate and Oyo State Governor Seyi Makinde.
The Oluwo said the decision was based on his assessment of the current administration’s performance. He described President Tinubu’s achievements as “unprecedented” and said the President deserves exclusive access to campaign in the state.
A major part of his commendation focused on infrastructure. He singled out the federal approval for the rehabilitation of the Osogbo-Iwo-Ibadan Road as a key example. According to him, the project will directly address the difficulties faced by commuters and residents in the area.
Oba Akanbi added that the road work will also have wider economic benefits. He noted that improved connectivity will boost commercial activities and strengthen links between Osun, Oyo and Ogun states.
“No presidential candidate should come to Osun State for presidential campaign except Bola Ahmed Tinubu,” the monarch stated during the event.
Beyond the campaign issue, the Oluwo urged political leaders across party lines to support the Tinubu administration. He cautioned against what he termed “premature politicking” and said the focus should be on governance and delivering people-oriented projects.
He also appealed to residents of Iwo and other communities along the road corridor. He asked them to cooperate with the contractors handling the rehabilitation so the project can be completed on schedule.
