NDC presidential candidate Peter Obi has reaffirmed his commitment to Nigeria’s health and education sectors, donating ₦10 million toward the establishment of a Skills Laboratory Centre at Grimard College of Nursing Sciences in Ayingba, Dekina LGA of Kogi State.
Obi made the announcement during a visit to the institution on Saturday, August 15, 2025.
Speaking after touring the college, the former Anambra State governor recalled his earlier intervention that helped the school avert the loss of accreditation.
“A few years ago, the institution faced a threat to its accreditation due to the lack of a bus for student clinical placements,” Obi said. “It gives me great satisfaction to note that, thanks to my intervention and the subsequent provision of a school bus, the school has successfully retained its accreditation and continues to play a vital role in educating nurses and other healthcare professionals.”
He described the new donation as a continuation of that support.
“My visit today was a continuation of this commitment. I contributed ₦10 million towards establishing a Skills Laboratory Centre for the school,” he stated.
Obi also addressed students, staff and management of the college, urging nursing students to remain focused on their studies.
“A career in nursing offers extensive opportunities and equips individuals with the necessary knowledge and skills to excel and make significant contributions globally,” he said.
The NDC candidate further stressed the need for deliberate investment in critical sectors, arguing that sustainable national development depends on it.
“Every nation striving for sustainable development and an improved quality of life for its citizens must deliberately invest in two crucial sectors: education and healthcare. These are not areas to be overlooked. Governments have a responsibility to prioritise them, and it is equally important for conscientious individuals and organisations to support these efforts,” Obi added.
He concluded: “A renewed Nigeria is achievable.”
