The Federal Government has reaffirmed its commitment to transform the Nigerian Army University Biu, NAUB, into a leading institution for specialised military and civilian capacity building.
The Honourable Minister of Defence, General Christopher Gwabin Musa (Rtd) OFR, gave the assurance on Friday while receiving the university’s Governing Council at the Ministry’s Headquarters in Abuja.
General Musa said NAUB remains critical to equipping military personnel with the technical and operational expertise needed to tackle contemporary security challenges.
“_As the Federal Government pushes for a highly skilled workforce in this digital era, we must encourage members of the Armed Forces, ministry staff, and the general public to leverage the cutting-edge technological and academic solutions available at NAUB,_” the Minister stated.
To address specialised skill gaps, he disclosed that the Ministry of Defence will work directly with the Armed Forces of Nigeria to fully utilize the 30% admission quota allocated to military personnel at the university.
A key outcome of the meeting was a joint commitment to urgently address infrastructural needs on campus. The Minister and the Governing Council agreed to prioritise the construction of a state-of-the-art Centre for Military Performance Management. The project, described as the first of its kind in Africa, is expected to enhance training and research in military performance.
Earlier, the leader of the delegation and Pioneer Pro-Chancellor of NAUB, Lt. General Tukur Yusuf Buratai (Rtd) CFR, commended General Musa for his leadership and strategic foresight. Lt. Gen. Buratai noted that the Minister’s contributions continue to strengthen Nigeria’s defence architecture. He also expressed appreciation for the Minister’s dedication to the Armed Forces and assured him of the university community’s commitment to academic excellence, research, and national service.
