The National Agency for Food and Drug Administration and Control (NAFDAC) has launched a nationwide enforcement operation to mop up alcoholic beverages packaged in sachets and PET bottles below 200ml, in compliance with the Federal Government’s ban.
In a statement on Wednesday, NAFDAC said the exercise is being carried out simultaneously across the country’s six geopolitical zones. It follows the earlier closure of non-compliant manufacturing facilities and forms part of the agency’s broader effort to safeguard public health.
Enforcement teams are targeting markets, motor parks, retail outlets, bars, and other distribution channels to identify, seize, and remove the banned products from circulation.
The agency warned that manufacturers, importers, distributors, wholesalers, retailers, transporters and other stakeholders must immediately surrender any remaining stock. NAFDAC noted that continued possession or sale of the banned products constitutes a violation of the law and may attract seizure, regulatory sanctions, and prosecution.
According to NAFDAC, the ban is intended to curb underage drinking, harmful alcohol consumption, and substance abuse, particularly among children and young people.

The agency appealed to the public to support the operation by refusing to buy banned products and by reporting anyone found producing, distributing, or selling them. Reports can be made to the nearest NAFDAC office or through its toll-free line: 0800-1-623322.
The Federal Government had earlier directed NAFDAC to enforce the ban on alcoholic beverages in sachets and PET bottles under 200ml, citing concerns over accessibility, abuse, and the health risks posed to vulnerable populations.
