abo Obasanjo, daughter of former President Olusegun Obasanjo and former Commissioner for Health and Senator, has received a major boost to her senatorial ambition following a unanimous endorsement from the Igbo Community.Obasanjo hosted a high-level delegation of Igbo stakeholders at the weekend. The delegation included market captains, youth leaders, and traditional elders.
In a statement after the meeting, Obasanjo said the community formally declared their solidarity and support for her aspiration to return to the Senate.
According to her, the endorsement is anchored on her record of service.
“Their faith in our shared vision is rooted in our past achievements, from our impactful work during my tenure as Commissioner for Health, to our legislative track record in the Senate, and the ongoing grassroots empowerment through the Iyaniwura Foundation,” she said.
Obasanjo described the Igbo community as critical to the state’s growth, noting their role in commerce and social cohesion.
“Progress is built on unity, mutual respect, and inclusive development. The Igbo community remains a vital engine of enterprise and social harmony in our state, and I am profoundly grateful for their trust and commitment,” she stated.
She added that the campaign will focus on broad-based development.
“Together, we are building a movement focused on shared prosperity, youth empowerment, and effective representation for all,” Obasanjo said.
Political observers note that support from market leaders, youth structures, and traditional institutions gives significant grassroots weight to her campaign ahead of the next senatorial election.
The Iyaniwura Foundation, which Obasanjo referenced, has been involved in community empowerment programs across the state in recent years
