FCT Minister Nyesom Wike on Tuesday declined to address the issue of indiscriminate cow grazing on Abuja roads, saying the matter falls under national security and is outside his remit to discuss publicly.
Speaking during his monthly chat with media executives in Abuja, Wike acknowledged public frustration over herders moving cattle through the city. He said he has “the capacity to deal with cow grazing in Abuja” but would not go into details.
“I won’t talk about it because it’s national security. Go to the NSA and the DSS DG. You know why I can’t touch it,” the minister said, referring to the National Security Adviser and the Director General of the Department of State Services.
Residents and commuters have repeatedly raised concerns about cattle on major roads and highways in the capital. The practice has led to traffic disruptions, accidents, and clashes between herders and other road users in some areas of the FCT.
The minister did not provide further explanation on why the issue is classified as a security matter, or what specific threats are involved. He also did not say what steps the FCT Administration is taking in coordination with federal security agencies.
