Umahi applauds Gombe Governor’s development drive, Says Gombe-Biu Super Highway is Tinubu’s Priority Project
Gombe State Governor, Muhammadu Inuwa Yahaya, has taken his campaign for federal road projects to the Federal Ministry of Works in Abuja, seeking faster action on key corridors that link Gombe to the rest of the North-East.Governor Inuwa met with the Minister of Works, Senator David Umahi, on Monday as part of ongoing efforts to secure more federal interventions in infrastructure. The focus was on improving connectivity to boost agriculture, trade, industry and tourism across the state and the region.
Top on the agenda was the Gombe-Biu section of the Akwanga – Jos – Bauchi – Gombe – Biu – Maiduguri Super Highway. The project was recently approved by the Federal Government and flagged off with a groundbreaking ceremony in Gombe, which Senator Umahi attended alongside the Governor and members of the National Assembly.
With that ceremony done, Governor Inuwa is now pressing for full construction to begin in earnest and for the project to be delivered on schedule. He also tabled proposals for new Northern and Southern bypasses around Gombe metropolis. According to him, the bypasses will decongest the city, link directly to the Gombe-Biu corridor, and make movement of people and goods faster.
Senator Umahi described the Gombe-Biu axis as a priority project of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s administration. He assured the Governor that the request to commence work from the proposed point would be considered as construction mobilization begins.
The Minister expressed confidence in Hitech Construction Company, the contractor handling the job, calling the firm one of the most competent for large-scale infrastructure.
Beyond the super highway, Umahi commended Governor Inuwa for what he called commitment and consistency in pursuing development for Gombe people. Reflecting on his recent visit to the state, the Minister said:
“Since my visit to Gombe, I have become like your ambassador. Anywhere I go I talk about your state and the developmental strides I have witnessed. I tell people, when you want to see genuine development and visionary leadership, go to Gombe.”
He further assured that the Federal Government will deliver the project and that its completion will show the impact of the Tinubu administration’s infrastructure agenda.
The Minister also acknowledged Governor Inuwa’s advocacy for other strategic roads in the North-East, including the Gombe – Bajoga – Potiskum, Gombe – Dukku – Darazo, and Gombe – Bauchi highways.
For Gombe, officials say these roads are economic lifelines. They connect farmers to markets, link communities to commercial centers, and tie the state to neighboring economic hubs.
