The All Progressives Congress, APC, in Osun State says it is conducting a “total review” of the just concluded governorship election and will not be pressured into congratulating Governor Ademola Adeleke.
Oluwole Oke, Director General of the APC Governorship Campaign Committee in Osun, made this known while reacting to the results announced by the Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC.
Speaking on the outcome, Oke acknowledged President Bola Tinubu’s position as the nation’s leader but stressed that the party’s focus remains on the Osun contest.
“You need to understand that Mr. President, President Bola Tinubu, is the father of the nation. And as a Democrat, based on the announcement of INEC, you know, it should just have been accredited to him. He’s a father, he’s a leader,” Oke said.
“But we’re on the spot. We’re on the ground and politics is local.”
Oke said the APC campaign team is currently studying and inspecting the election records before taking a final position.
“And like I’ve told you, that what we are doing, even for future records, is to conduct a total review of the entire process,” he stated.
“And then, from our opinion, we won’t be under any sort of pressure to easily, you know, probably reach out to congratulate Governor Ademola Adeleke. You know, because we believed he did not score the highest valid votes.”
He added that the party would communicate its position to the public after the review is concluded.
“But like I observed, like I submitted, having issue, we are studying the records, we are inspecting the records, and very soon we would make our position known to the members of the public.”
INEC had declared Governor Ademola Adeleke of the Accord Party winner of the Osun Governorship Election. The APC says its review will determine its next steps, including whether to challenge the results.
