Veteran Nollywood actor, Afeez Oyetoro, popularly known as Saka, has revealed how he turned down a mouth-watering N7.5 million endorsement deal from a betting company in 1999.
Oyetoro made the disclosure during a recent appearance on the African A-List Podcast, where he spoke about his principles and career choices.
Recounting the incident, the comic actor said the offer came at a time when he badly needed money, but he had to decline because of his religious beliefs and his role as a teacher.
In his words:
> “I could remember yr 1999 when a popular betting company approached me to become their ambassador and they offered me #7.5Million to just helped them advertise their business thou the money was huge and I needed money badly then but I had to decline it because (1) I am a religious person that don’t believe in betting games (2) I have always been a teacher and I always speak against betting, how will my students and people looking up to me feel if they see me promoting such business? So I declined because I know Betting is not a good idea.”
The actor, who is also a lecturer, said he does not regret his decision as providence later provided another opportunity.
“But I thank God, shortly after I declined the offer another company came and offered me #5Million to advertise their services, I quickly grabbed it,” he added.
Saka, known for his decades-long career in Yoruba and English movies and his famous comedic roles, has often been celebrated for maintaining a clean image and his commitment to education and moral values.
