Ogun State Governor, Prince Dapo Abiodun, has announced a major breakthrough in the state’s economic drive with the signing of Memoranda of Understanding (MoU) for the development of the Gateway Deep Sea Port and the Ogun State Blue Marine Special Economic Zone.
Abiodun disclosed that the MoU was signed with DP World MEA FZE in Paris, France, in an event witnessed by President Bola Ahmed Tinubu.
According to the governor, the projects are expected to attract over $7 billion in initial investment and create more than 50,000 direct jobs, with vast opportunities in manufacturing, logistics, maritime services, exports and other sectors.
“The projects, witnessed by our President, His Excellency Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu, GCFR, in Paris, France, are expected to attract more than $7 billion in initial investment and create over 50,000 direct jobs, while opening new opportunities in manufacturing, logistics, maritime services, exports and other sectors,” Abiodun said.
He explained that the Gateway Deep Sea Port to be sited in Ogun Waterside will be integrated with a proposed 10,000-hectare Blue Marine Special Economic Zone and linked to other key infrastructure such as the Lagos-Calabar Coastal Highway and the Gateway International Airport.
“For us, this is about much more than building a port. We are creating an integrated economic corridor capable of connecting Ogun State’s productive capacity to markets across Africa and the rest of the world,” the governor stated.
Abiodun appreciated President Tinubu for his leadership and federal support that has helped move the long-standing vision closer to reality.
He also commended the Federal Ministry of Marine and Blue Economy, the Nigerian Ports Authority and other partners for their commitment to the projects.
He reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to attracting investments, creating jobs and positioning Ogun State as a leading industrial, logistics and investment destination under its Building Our Future Together agenda.
