Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, FCT, Mr Nyesom Wike has declared that the Federal Capital Territory is fully and firmly secured for President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s re-election bid in 2027, as political heavyweights from the All Progressives Congress, APC, and the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, have collapsed their structures into one united front.
Wike gave the assurance on Wednesday in Abuja while interacting with political stakeholders, party leaders, traditional rulers, women groups and youths from the Abuja Municipal Area Council, AMAC, in what was described as a historic cross-party dialogue.
The interactive session, which brought together arch-rivals from opposing political divides, saw leaders of both the APC and PDP publicly bury their grudges and pledge total loyalty to President Tinubu’s Renewed Hope agenda.
Describing the event as one of his happiest days in office, Wike said the artificial barrier of partisan rivalry that had long divided brothers and families in the FCT has been completely shattered for the collective interest and development of the capital city.
Wike, who serves as the coordinator of the APC Presidential Campaign Council in the FCT, noted that past administrations neglected the structural and political integration of the territory, leaving it divided and underdeveloped. He however said that under President Tinubu’s bold, courageous and visionary leadership, the FCT has witnessed unprecedented transformation in less than three years.
Highlighting key achievements of the current administration, the minister pointed to monumental infrastructural strides that have changed the face of Abuja, including the Apo-Karshi Road which was stalled for over 16 years before the Tinubu administration revived and completed it.
He also lauded the administration’s commitment to inclusivity and justice for FCT indigenes and residents, noting the elevation of career civil servants to the positions of permanent secretaries and Head of Service, the appointment of an FCT indigene as Minister, and the creation of the pioneer Women Affairs and Youth Secretariats to directly address the concerns of women and youths.
Wike further listed the integration of indigenous communities such as Gishiri, Guzape and others through massive road development, infrastructural provision and monetary compensation as proof that President Tinubu has addressed long-standing grievances that previous governments ignored.
Addressing the economic realities of the country, Wike defended the removal of fuel subsidy, describing it as a necessary, long-overdue pill that previous presidents acknowledged was a scam but lacked the political will to remove.
“Every president said it was a scam, but nobody had the courage to say it would go. That is the pain we will endure till we get it right,” Wike stated.
He noted that the increased statutory allocations currently flowing to states and local governments have liberated governors from the era of heavy commercial bank borrowing, enabling visible and rapid infrastructural development at the grassroots across the country.
Dismissing opposition figures who engage in perpetual electoral cycles without any tangible agenda, Wike urged voters, especially the youth, to reject hollow alternatives and stick with proven leadership that is delivering results.
“The comprehensive campaign council will be inaugurated next week. Be rest assured that all logistical backing required for a landslide victory has been fully secured. On election day, come out with your PVCs, cast your votes, and ensure total victory for Tinubu and our progressive candidates,” he declared.
Drawing a definitive line under past political hostilities, local leaders from opposing sides announced their allegiance to Wike’s progressive mandate and the re-election of President Tinubu.
Speaking at the event, the APC Chairman in the FCT, Mr Ishaku Yamawo, praised Wike for transforming both the physical landscape and the political climate of the nation’s capital.
“Before now, when elections were approaching, some of us didn’t talk to our own brothers because they were in the other party. Today, we are sitting under the same roof for APC and PDP because somebody has changed the narrative of politics. A political party is not a barrier to partnering with your brother for victory and progress,” Yamawo said.
He commended President Tinubu for addressing long-standing grievances of FCT indigenes, notably appointing a native son to a ministerial position and integrating indigenous communities through infrastructure and compensation.
Aligning with the APC’s stance, the FCT PDP Chairman, Mr Mohammed Dogara declared that political hostility in the capital was now a thing of the past.
“It used to be cats and rats, not seeing themselves in the day or night. But today, cats and rats can eat on the same plate. When Wike came to the FCT, he saw that development is key. What reason do we have as FCT indigenes and non-indigenes to say we are not going to support Mr President? No reason,” Dogara said.
Dogara added that by January 16, 2027, the party structure down to the grassroots level would be fully mobilized behind President Tinubu, urging traditional rulers and community chiefs to lead their people toward the path of development.
Adding a royal blessing to the declaration, the District Head of Jikoyi, Mr Nicodemus Marchi, compared Wike’s arrival as FCT Minister to a cool breeze that restored stability and progress across the territory.
Marchi praised Wike for resolving security challenges, reviving long-abandoned road projects and upgrading local chiefs, transitioning second-class thrones to first-class after 29 years of neglect.
Also speaking, Mr Musa Jeji, Chairman of the FCT Gbagyi Youth Forum, AMAC Chapter, who spoke on behalf of the youths, declared the readiness of young people to deliver the territory for Tinubu, stressing that organized youth associations across all council wards were fully aligned for victory.
On her part, former APC Women Leader in the FCT, Mrs Hilmary Aipoh, commended Wike for empowering women by establishing the Women Affairs Secretariat and opening up rural access roads for farmers. Describing AMAC’s 1,400 polling units as the primary political battlefield of the FCT, she called on the minister to integrate women directly into the campaign structure for maximum impact.
News Century TV reports that the cross-party dialogue marks a historic shift toward inter-party cooperation in the FCT, with stakeholders declaring that the 2027 presidential election in Abuja is already a concluded matter in favour of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu.
