Imo State Governor, Senator Hope Uzodimma, has commended security agencies for the successful rescue of 20 prospective members of the National Youth Service Corps, NYSC, who were abducted along the Onitsha-Owerri Road.
The prospective corps members were reportedly kidnapped while traveling to their respective states of deployment for the mandatory national service.
In a statement released on Wednesday, Governor Uzodimma lauded the gallantry and professionalism of the security operatives who carried out the rescue operation.
He noted that while crime may not be completely eradicated, his administration has continued to strengthen the state’s security architecture and intelligence network to prevent criminal activities and ensure swift response during emergencies.
“While crime may never be completely eradicated, we have continued to strengthen our security architecture and intelligence network across the State to forestall criminal activities and facilitate swift rescue operations where necessary,” the governor said.
Uzodimma expressed gratitude to the Federal Government and the Oyo State Government for their collaboration and support throughout the rescue mission, adding that “To the glory of God, our security agencies pulled through.”
The governor also commended the families and relatives of the victims for their patience, resilience and faith during the period of the operation.
He called on residents of the state to continue to support and have faith in security agencies as they carry out their duties of protecting lives and property.
The rescue has brought relief to many Nigerians, particularly families of corps members and stakeholders in the NYSC scheme.
