The Imole Campaign Council said Saturday that the Accord Party and Governor Ademola Adeleke are in a “comfortable lead” in the Osun State governorship election held today, and called on the Independent National Electoral Commission to conduct the poll strictly in line with President Bola Tinubu’s directive for a free and transparent process.
In a press statement issued in Osogbo and signed by its spokesman, Pelumi Olajengbesi, the Council urged INEC to “adhere strictly” to the President’s instruction to deliver a transparent, free and fair election.
The Council also asked INEC to uphold electoral integrity and reject what it described as “any last-minute manipulation by the All Progressives Congress.”
Addressing security agencies, the Campaign Council said they must remain professional and neutral throughout the process. It warned that security personnel must resist being used by the APC to influence the election, particularly during ward and local government collations.
“The votes of the good people of Osun must count,” the statement said. “INEC should not subject the democratic will of the people to the ego of APC power-grabbers and moneybags desperate to win this election at all costs when the Accord Party is clearly in the lead.”
The Council further called on civil society organisations and democracy advocates worldwide to monitor the process to its conclusion and reject what it termed “any nocturnal magic or manufactured votes by the APC.”
