NDC presidential candidate Peter Obi has donated ₦10 million to the College of Nursing Sciences and College of Medical Sciences at Bishop Shanahan Hospital, Nsukka, as part of what he called sustained investment in Nigeria’s human capital.
During a visit to the institutions on Friday, Obi said the donation was aimed at strengthening the schools’ growth, development, and capacity to deliver quality medical education and training.
He addressed students directly, urging them to see education as more than the pursuit of certificates.
“Education goes beyond certificates; it is about gaining the knowledge, skills, discipline and character to make a meaningful difference,” Obi said. “Your training also prepares you to become competent, compassionate healthcare professionals who can serve humanity anywhere in the world.”
The former Anambra State governor said his commitment to education and health remains central to his vision for the country. He argued that deliberate investment in those two sectors, combined with efforts to lift citizens out of poverty, is one of the most effective ways to build a productive and prosperous society.
“My belief remains that sustained investment in education and healthcare, alongside deliberate efforts to lift people out of poverty, is one of the most effective and responsible ways to build a better, more productive and prosperous society,” he stated.
Obi closed with his campaign refrain: “When we invest in people, we invest in the future of our nation. A New Nigeria is POssible.”
Bishop Shanahan Hospital is one of the major faith-based health training institutions in Enugu State, and has been a recipient of support from Obi in previous years
