Senate President, Senator Godswill Akpabio, will oversee the affairs of Nigeria while President Bola Ahmed Tinubu and Vice President Kashim Shettima are both out of the country.
Vice President Shettima departed Abuja on Sunday for Luanda, Angola, where he will represent President Tinubu at the 21st Extraordinary Session of the Assembly of Heads of State and Government of the African Union.
Shettima announced the trip earlier today, saying he will join African leaders and other key stakeholders in the Angolan capital to address pressing regional security challenges.
“Earlier today, I departed Abuja for Luanda, Angola, where I will represent my boss, President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, at the 21st Extraordinary Session of the Assembly of Heads of State and Government of the African Union,” Shettima stated.
The one-day emergency meeting will focus on practical solutions to conflicts across the continent and on strengthening collective efforts toward conflict prevention and resolution.
The summit is expected to center on critical strategies for lasting peace and stability across Africa.
With insecurity, insurgency, and political crises affecting several AU member states, leaders will review existing mechanisms and agree on coordinated actions to de-escalate tensions and protect civilians
Who’s in Charge at Home
With both the President and Vice President out of the country, Senate President Godswill Akpabio will take charge of Nigeria’s affairs during the period, in line with constitutional provisions for continuity of government.
Nigeria, as one of Africa’s largest economies and a leading voice on peace and security, is expected to play a central role in the AU deliberations. Shettima’s representation underscores President Tinubu’s commitment to AU’s Agenda 2063 and the principle of African solutions to African problems.
The Vice President is scheduled to hold bilateral engagements with fellow leaders on the sidelines of the summit before returning to Abuja
